The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) announced that biotechnology, advanced robot and artificial intelligence technology have been newly designated as eligible for accelerated examination as of February 19, 2025. This follows an earlier inclusion of semiconductor, display technology and secondary battery. Additionally, the scope of accelerated examination for secondary battery technology has been expanded. Furthermore, KIPO has broadened the scope of accelerated examination for carbon-neutral green technologies to include the existing carbon dioxide capture technologies, as well as national strategic technologies, renewal energy technologies and related fields.

This new team consists of five divisions employing a total of 120 personnel. KIPO newly hired 35 private-sector experts as patent examiners and integrated them with the existing 85 examiners to form a specialized team dedicated to the examination of biotech and healthcare-related patent applications.
