Jin-Hoe KIM

Senior Partner / Patent Attorney

Jin-Hoe Kim is a distinguished patent attorney with extensive experience, specializing in the fields of chemistry, biology and pharmaceuticals. He has been with Lee International IP & Law since 1997. Prior to his career with Lee International IP & Law, he served as both a patent attorney and a patent engineer with Y.S. Chang & Associates from 1992 to 1997. He has an outstanding record of leading inter partes trials, such as confirmation of scope actions and invalidity actions before the IPTAB and also handling appeal proceedings before the Intellectual Property High Court and the Korea Supreme Court. He regularly advises clients on the handling of intellectual property transactions and license agreements. He also represents clients in IP trials and other litigation matters in these same technology fields. His clients range from the largest multinational corporations to medium-sized companies, as well as institutes and universities.

Because Mr. Kim possesses a profound understanding of the culture, language and the IP practices of Japan, he leads the firm’s Japan practice group. In this capacity, he provides Japanese clients with a fully customized and understandable package of legal services geared specifically to their needs.

Mr. Kim has been an active writer and invited speaker in his practice areas, most notably on the topics of external limitations, infringement under the doctrine of equivalents, application of prosecution history estoppel, and patent term extension systems in Korea. He has published a number of articles on these and other related topics.

Mr. Kim is a current member of the Korean Patent Attorneys Association (KPAA), the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA), the Licensing Executives Society Japan (LES JAPAN) and the Japan Trademark Association (JTA). He is a graduate of Seoul National University with a B.S. in microbiology (1987) and an M.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology (1989).
